I've searched around for this error and there's not much on it. This is a fresh gentoo install on an AMD64 machine with a single SATA drive. Whenever I try to boot from grub, I get the following error:

Code:
  Booting 'Gentoo Linux 2.6.9'

root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /linux-2.6.9-gentooo-r14 root=/dev/sda3

Error 13:  Invalid or unsupported executable format

Press any key to continue

Here's the /boot/grub/grub.conf

Code:
timeout30
default 0
title=Gentoo
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/linux-2.6.9-gentoo-r14 root=/dev/sda3

And the /etc/fstab

Code:
/dev/sda1        /boot        ext2        noauto,noatime         1  1
/dev/sda3        /            ext2        noatime                0  0
/dev/sda2        none          swap         sw                   0  0
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0        /mnt/cdrom       iso9660        noauto,ro       0  0
none             /proc        proc       defaults                 0  0
none             /dev/shm       tmpfs        defaults           0  0

At first I thought something went wrong at the compile stage, but...
Code:
file /boot/linux-2.6.9-gentoo-r14

...gives me:
Code:
ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, not strippped

So the kernel is alright. Anyone else find their way through an Error 13?

Code:

bash-2.05b# file /boot/kernel-2.6.11
/boot/kernel-2.6.11: x86 boot sector

File may not recognize your kernel 100% accurately, or maybe it is not getting compiled right? Doesn't say boot sector

are you sure you didn't forget or mistype anything when copying your bzImage?

Code:
 cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/<your kernel name>
