The new gentoo installer (2005.1 i think) is more automated and more like other dists, "Next, Next, Chose a option, Next, Next". I dont like the idea.

someone who gets a full featured debian system to work should have no problems with setting up a gentoo system, that makes me curious now 8O

there is an easier way to install gentoo, there has been a port of the anaconda (redhat/fedora) installer to a gentoo stage3 tarball / rpm.
But you might like to install VidaLinux, it is a Gentoo stage3 install and comes with GNOME and Firefox installed already. It also uses Porthole, which is a frontend to portage the same way Synaptic is a frontend to APT

What he is saying is you say you say you use Debian and are comfortable with it, thus you must have a fair amount of linux knowledge to do that, thus this thread looks more like flamebate than someone who know nothing about linux.

Can't comment on Debian, never used it
