I tested only with glxgears, it is a little better!

uggh just did some benchmarks with 3dmark2001:
6629: 4004
7167: 2572
Very disapointing... I rebooted between both benchmarks and had a script that set all the video settings. Looks like it's back to 6629 for me.

ummm...... did you actually try running a game? dont make assumptions about drivers if you use very bad benchmarking programs to do so (glxgears, and benchmarks in wine)

what's so bad about benchmarking in wine? well I just tried ut2004-demo and it while I don't have any numbers it does feel a little more sluggish than usual

change "NvAGP" "3" to "1" and your performance is gonna be ok again... (it's a problem with the agpgart module)

ah ok, i'll have to recompile since agpgart is built into my kernel...so this problem just came up with 7167? i had been using agpgart with 6629..

too bad... They say the module should be compatible with the newest kernels / systems now, but nvidia-kernel does not work when compiled with GCC 4.0

nvidia-glx seems to work fine with it though...

Slight performance boost! (+- 100 frames in glxgears)

ok after I recompiled without agpgart and used NVagp, I got my speed back:
6629: 4004
7167: 4010

woohoo .1% increase

glxgears:
66.29: 7130
71.67: 7452

PCIe GeForce 6600GT, AMD64 2005.0 profile, small increase, but I'll take it :D The flashing sw cursor seems to be fixed too.

I used to use NvAGP, but was told by many to use AGPGART because it was more "stable," but I think nvidia probably will be a lot more updated with nvagp. So I took AGPGART support out, set NvAGP to "1" and X doesn't start. Instead it gives that warpy looking screen when the kernel/X crashes. Any idea how to get NVAGP working? I've got fastwrites and SBA on, could that be an issue? Also the Xorg logs don't show any reason for the crashes..

2.6.11 kernels have a bug causing nvagp not to work properly. Somwhow, nitro and love releases have found a way around this (at least on my hardware: nvidia 5700 LE 256 mb).

I tried to update the drivers, and set NvAGP to 1, and on 1 and 3 i got horrible performance... I compiled with the latest stable GCC and i'm running the 2.6.11 nitro sources. i had to revert for now.

To all of you people having trouble with AGPGART,

Zander has released a patch, to work around this issue. It can be grabbed from the driver-updates thread for 7167:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47405

The patch may be in portage already, I don't know.

No problems for me.
glxgears :
6.6.29 7156Fps
7.1.67 12515Fps.

It works very well on my GeForce 6800 GT(AGP 8X). :D

Still no SLI support
I was really hoping they'd have that in this release. I knew I'd have to wait for the linux support, but didn't expect it to be this long of a wait.

other than that, glxgears is about the same as with the previous drivers, just a hair under 12,000fps. What bugs me is that I lost about 5FPS in Doom3 time demo. 1600x1200, high quality I got 55FPS before, with the 71.67 I get 50.5FPS.

Strangely, I have 200 more in glxgears, but a drop in fps for World of Warcraft T_T and some bugs in the sky too o_O And no problem for Warcraft 3.

I had to roll back as well -- XOrg wouldn't even start for me. The error message was talking about a version difference between the kernel module and the drivers X Org was getting. (gentoo dev sources 2.6.11-r2, AMD 64, on X.Org 6.8.2)

lol, it's because you had to reboot completely, because of the kernel module :p

EDIT: new -r1 version is out

Thank you a lot, it worked.

It isn't in portage but I suspended the emerge, patched it and resumed the emerge again.

It got into portage today, in the updated -r1 ebuild. :)

EDIT:
Errr, yesterday.
