Hi all-

I'm switching over from FC3 to Gentoo on my Compaq N600c laptop. I've been following the installation instructions in the handbook that comes on the liveCD and I've run into an odd problem. Name resolution and the ethernet interface itself seems to be working perfectly when I initially boot off of the CD. I have copied etc/resolve.conf from the CD to hda. As soon as I chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash, name resolution stops working. I first noticed it after doing the env-update and source /etc/profile steps. emerge --sync didn't work, nor did emerge-webrsync. I can ping IP addresses and get replies. I've pinged my DNS, I've pinged the other machine on my local network, and I've pinged a couple of websites whose addresses I resolved with the other machine. This works fine. I am not sure what the problem is here and any help would be much appreciated.

You probably forgot to copy /etc/resolv.conf over first (or misnamed it)

I think I must have misnamed it, since it doesn't have an 'e' on the end.
