I heard about the bug-fixes going on with 2005.0. Does anyone know when 2005.0 is coming out? I am about to install Gentoo on my PC, and I need to decide whether i should wait for 2005.0 or just use 2004.3.

Thanks.

There are tons of threads in the forums and the irc channels on this...

The only answer to this question is: "When it is ready"

Check the front page of Gentoo.org. Just as they were going to release 2005.0 a few security vulnerabilities popped up. So now they're rebuilding and testing the software with the security patches. They'd also like to release all of them on all arches at the same time.

So just wait.

You should only worry if they change the name of the release to 2006.0

Hi mantheorem,

welcome to the forums :)

This question is asked a lot (see the duplicates forum). There are no exact release dates because if these would be missed, people would start bad mouthing developers and ask lots of "why is it not yet ready" questions.

As long as you are not planning a heavy use of GRP packages or the 2004.3 LiveCD doesn't work for you, I see no reason not to start installing 2004.3. Your system will be uptodate just after the first sync & world emerge.

Moved to dups in favour of the FAQ
