I'm going to install gentoo 2005.0, as soon as it is released, on my new athlon64 rig, and I had a couple of questions.

Will the 2005.0 minimal (or full) live CD support Reiser4 as a filesystem? If not, where can I find such a boot cd for amd64?

I heard a while back that Reiser4 didn't work on x86-64, has this been fixed?

Using 2005.0 will utilizing NTPL from stage 1 be as easy as adding NTPL to the use flags before boot strapping, or will I have to combine AlienX's guide with the AMD64 Install Handbook?

Thanks in advance,
-Bryce

EDIT:
Previously when I had gentoo running in a 32 bit environment I used "-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" along with my march and mcpu for my CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS. Should I use more conservative settings for an all 64bit system? I guess I'm asking if the x86-64 compiler is on par with the x86 gcc in terms of stability and maturity.

2005.0 Gentoo liveCDs will not support reiser4 on any architecture.

The main AMD64 reiser4 bug has been fixed, and if others exist, people aren't mentioning them here or on the mailing list. Use reiser4progs 1.0.4 with one of the latest kernels and you'll probably be fine. Search the forums. I know there's a liveCD out there somewhere.

When I do NPTL, I prefer to install a stage3 and re-emerge glibc after switching to 2.6 headers and setting my USE flags, but I'm sure a stage1 won't take long on AMD64 hardware. 2005.0 should start you with a 2.6 kernel and headers (vanilla or gentoo-sources and linux-headers, no development or 26 in the names), making NPTL easy.

I use CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -pipe". fomit-frame-pointer is implied by -O2, I think, for AMD64. -O3 would probably also be safe. If you want the best AMD64 optimizations, use GCC 3.4.

So, how are you supposed to install on reiser4?

You either have to get a LiveCD that supports Reiser4 or install with one filesystem and then convert to Reiser4 after the install.
