On Slashdot earlier on there was this: http://linux.slashdot.org/linux/05/03/18/1421255.shtml?tid=172&tid=106
I tried it on my gentoo install and it was true.
This was what I used:
Code:

#!/bin/bash

for i in $(seq 1 100)
do
./forkbomb &
done

The file was called forkbomb

Within 5 seconds I had to reboot...
Don't you think something should be done about this? Is there a simple way to fix it, like a config file or something?
Anyway, be cool

Research "limits". You can configure a limit on spawned processes.

Or, don't do that.

Thanks. I don't really think there's a situation where someone might do that to my box, but you never know...
And it does look bad for gentoo :(

Which is why it's so embarassing that 90% of default linux installs are susceptible to it.
