i686-pc-linux-gnu-ld: unrecognized option '-Wl,-soname'
i686-pc-linux-gnu-ld: use the --help option for usage information
gmake[5]: *** [libldap50.so] Error 1

Any ideas? Ldap builds just fine.

Have you tried (if you are using gcc 3.4.x) to switch to gcc 3.3.x compiler? (It's my case, I can't compile mozilla, and nor other related mozilla progs with a gcc 3.4.x)

Code:
# gcc-config -l
[1] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.3.4
[2] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.3 *
[3] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.3-hardened
[4] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.3-hardenednopie
[5] i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.3-hardenednossp
# gcc-config 1 && source /etc/profile && emerge mozilla && gcc-config 2 && source /etc/profile

I'm reasonably sure I've compiled all of them with 3.4.x previously (100% positive with Firefox), including Mozilla 1.7.5.
I'm not desparate for the -r1 upgrade but would like to find a proper resolution.

The problem seems to be that gnu-ld is being called instead of gcc.
My 1.7.5 log shows this:
Code:
gcc -shared -Wl,-soname -Wl,libldap50.so

While the 1.7.5.-r1 shows this:
Code:
i686-pc-linux-gnu-ld -shared -Wl,-soname -Wl,libldap50.so

The other libraries, up to that point, are properly built using gcc:
Code:
i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -shared -Wl,-soname -Wl,libnspr4.so

But then stuff goes nuts...need a compiler not ld.

Just remerged mozilla-1.7.5 with no problem. It's the same code with the same patches applied so the finger is really pointing towards the -r1 ebuild.
