I recently went through a fresh Gentoo install on an iMac G3. When I boot, the system says that there is a bad magic number in the superblock for /dev/hda1 and that I should run e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/hda1. I tried this with no luck; there is "not enough space to build proposed filesystem while setting up superblock." This is preventing Gentoo from fully booting. How might I go about repairing the superblock?

EDIT: /dev/hda1 was the apple partition map. Removing the first line from /etc/fstab, the one that mapped /dev/hda1 to /boot, was all that was needed to fix the problem.

Are you using mac-fdisk or parted? AFAIK you won't be able to delete the first partition either way, as it's the apple partition map. Could you post your current partition map?
