I've gone through the documentation, and searched the forums, but I can't find an answer to this question. I am aware of how equery can be used to find the flags used on a package already installed, but what can I do about packages I want to install. Say I want to install firefox, or a media player. How the heck can I figure out what USE flags are available for it, and what they are for. Using the verbose flag in emerge doesn't describe the use flags like equery, but equery only describes installed programs? I'm probably missing something, but how do the gurus know what flags to use when installing new packages?

Use
Code:
# emerge -vp "package"

To get the use flags, then use:
Code:
# euse -i "flag1" "flag2" "flag3"....

To pull the information

Perfect, I'll have to try that out next time I need it. Good to see another Tarheel in here as well.

Code:

and the bug report
