hi folks,

i've got a few questions about running gentoo on a powerpc (maybe you know that the topic already told you that ;)).
So, i bought this new mac mini thingy, and yeah.. it's ok.. but i'm missing something to play around so i want to run
gentoo on it, i've got portage for os x, but that isn't that good - so many packages aren't masked/supported/whatever...

so my questions are:

- Is the soundthingy supported? (Apple Intrepid Audio) - [SOLVED] https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-297244.html

- What about the packages? Is it the same problem with the packages like in portage for os x?
I mean, gentoo is really useless without its packages, isn't it?
e.g. irssi, i wanted to emerge irssi but its telling me there is a keyword missing or masked bla, whatever.
do i have the same problem with gentoo on ppc or is it just because i'm running osx with portage?
So, the question is, are there any problems with packages or is everything just running fine?

yeah.. thats it.. sorry for my bad english

so far,

codey

If you want to take a look, you could always download a portage "snapshot" and see how many packages that you like have PPC support. Portage on Mac OS X is still a recent addition. I think you will find more support for running Portage on PPC Gentoo.

If you want to run more packages, I'd check out the ebuild files for the packages you like. If there isn't a keyword there at all, it means no one has gotten around to testing it yet. If you like living life on the edge, add your keyword and try compiling it. If it works, I'm sure the developers would like to hear it. If the package is masked, the same thing applies.
