installed gen-dev-sources 2.6.11-r4 kernel and everything went smooth as butter till i rebooted. then i got a screen saying "so you can fix the problem" where the last five lines all started with "vesafb:" i actually installed 2.4 kernel on this pc recently, and didnt' have this problem at all. i also installed the 2.6 kernel once before as well, and got the same error message. obviously, the problem lies somewhere there. so, it boots, i get the purple screen with 2.6.11 on it, and hit enter, then this screen of white text comes up (no "ok's" or anything. help?

i did a stage3 install of x86 on my sempron2200+ machine. i basically didnt' configure anything i didn't need to, didn't mess with useflags, used genkernel etc.

any thoughts?

need i post the entire message? sigh

i didn't "install seperate kernel modules" or install "hotplug" or any of that. i didn't add "dhcpd_eth0="-HD" or the "N" one either. it's just me and my pc, no servers, or other network pcs, my pc connected to the internet automatically (cable). used vixiecron and syslog-ng and slocate. i also "emerge dhcpcd" which i'm unsure whether i was supposed to. i assume so. i used grub without a problem. i'll check my grub and fstab now, as i had problems there before, but i'm guessing they're ok. i completely axe'd windows as well, setup partitions in fdisk just as the handbook says, except i did 50MB for boot and 1024MB for swap. i don't have a vid card, just onboard vid. i didnt' install framebuffer far as i can tell

i try to access fstab and grub but fstab tells me something like "this is the fstab of the live cd" so go elsewhere for what i want, but i can't seem to access what i want. when i go nano -w /mnt/gentoo/etc/fstab or something like that, it's blank

boot from cd then
mount all hdd's and proc, then chroot into env.

Code:

mount /dev/YOURROOT /mnt/gentoo
mount /dev/YOURBOOT /mnt/gentoo/boot
swapon /dev/YOURSWAP
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
nano -w /boot/grub/grub.conf

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of Kernel doesn't boot, stops with "vesafb: scrolling: redraw".
