Most of you probably already know this but I want to show those that don't know, that there are abandonware and freeware sites out there that offer games (or links to games) for free. Using emulators like DOSbox or Wine you should be able to get them to work in Gentoo.

For example:

Links deleted. If any of them is non-abandonware (checked two), PM me and I'll put it back, or start a thread with legal games only, assuming there isn't one already. --kallamej

Abandonware is just a term to justify pirating old things.

Any company that goes out of business (or abandons a project) should open-source their work (unless if there are legal issues). Anyone else agree with me? :P

As funny as that it is, it doesn't make this any less warez.

Maybe, the only difference is that no one's getting hurt in the process. You seem to be against the concept of abandonware, why?

Yeah, but I'm convinced that when they do abandon they won't care or bother with it :?

I'm only against abandonware since it is still warez, and shouldn't be discussed on this forum. Note the thing at the top about cracked software.

If the moderators share your opinion I'm sure they will lock or remove this thread. I on the other hand encourage abandonware since it's a good way to preserve old/dated software.

It's on shaky legal grounds, see for instance this article, and a dup as well.
