Hello folks,

I have tried Ubuntu recently and i must say, it is a verry nice peace of enginering :P . What i liked most was that you have in fact a Debian Based OS (debian is stable, verry stabeble, that is a fact) but with a verry easy installation. Is there such installation also for gentoo? let's say: more easy, *graphical* and more set to beginners?

Greetings,

Jerry

No.

edit: There is a graphical install in the pipeline but it is not ready yet. The installation is not difficult IF you read the install instructions fully and carefully.

yes... sorry to step in... but Vidalinux is a Gentoo clone with the Anaconda Installer. not tryin to promote them because i am not. i tried it for a while and as you can see... i am here. IMO... Vidalinux has about the worst support in the Linux community. the moderators tend to demean people seeking help. you can readily go there and read the forums to see of what i speak.

but again IMO... your best bet is to stay here and install Gentoo the way it was meant to be installed. you will learn so much more about linux working your way through Gentoo's install process.

i read once that Gentoo is great because it forces you to learn how to use linux correctly just to get it installed... and i have come to believe that :)

No. At least not for another year or two.

Any bloody GUI installer had better be optional, else I can see a lot of people leaving.

Me at the head of the line ....

Relax, Gentoo will never be as barbaric as Fedora or Ubuntu - forcing you to use an installer, let alone a graphical one. Remember, Gentoo is all about choice. ;)

And much better choice, I might add... :)

imo, the gentoo installation is as easy as a gui installation. all you have to do is change between two consoles. one with the manual and one with the actuall installation. all you have to do is first read what to do, write it down and then do it. :)

Please follow up here for the discussion on whether a GUI installer is necessary: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-260169.html.

Moved from Installing Gentoo.
