Hi,

amaroK is giving me a headache. It crashes randomly, sending me back to kdm. I've tried with different sound engines (xine, gstreamer (both ossink and alsasink), arts). Usually it crashes when I hit the 'stop'-button to stop playing. I've started it from konsole to see if there's some messages to give me a hint of where the problem might be, nothing. I've also tried all amarok versions from 1.2 to 1.2.2, all crash. It crashed on KDE-3.3.2, after that I built the system from scratch again (like this https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=274968) with kde-3.3.2. amaroK still crashed. Last week I upgraded to kde-3.4.0 with amaroK rebuilt again, still it crashes.

I've ran out of ideas what to do. Hopefully someone of you can help me with this.

Here's my sys info:

Code:

AMD XP1800+
512GB RAM
nForce audio (snd-intel8x0) with ALSA-drivers
Kernel 2.6.11-gentoo-r4
KDE-3.4.0

CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -mfpmath=sse -msse -mmmx -m3dnow -fomit-frame-pointer"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1"

gcc version 3.4.3-20050110 (Gentoo Linux 3.4.3.20050110-r1, ssp-3.4.3.20050110-0, pie-8.7.7)

emerge -pv amarok

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] media-sound/amarok-1.2.2  +arts -debug +flac +gstreamer +kde -kdeenablefinal +mad -mysql -noamazon +oggvorbis +opengl -visualization +xine +xinerama +xmms 5,826 kB

Oh, and I've tried with default CFLAGS that gentoo-handbook suggests and without LDFLAGS, still crashes.

TIA
/tetra

I had a problem with amarok crashing a while ago and it went away when I blew away my amarok configurations. I'm not sure if I removed ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc, ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/ or both. Trash amarokrc first and see if that helps.

Thanks for your reply.

I've done that about 100 times, but amaroK still behaves badly.
Forgot to mention too that I've switched between sqllite and mysql in amaroK, doesn't help either.

I found some more probs... I tried to upgrade amarok to the testing-version - crashing-prob. continue to exist. I emerged xine-ui (stable) same prob. there... It seems that both these programs crash right after that the splash has gone away. Messing manually with the conf-files doesn't help anything...

These probs are on a higher level than i understand so, please help... :(
