PostPosted: Thu Mar 24, 2005 2:44 pm    Post subject: Stage 1 emerge error Reply with quote

Hi Everyone

I am trying to install Gentoo for the first time. I am using a HP dv1170ca laptop, Centrino 1.6, 512 RAM and Intel ethernet card and I am trying a stage1 installation from a Live CD. Network is fine, I can get sources portage, bootstrap

Everything goes fine until I try to

emerge system

It takes a while building everything but after more than a half hour building it stops and gives me an error message concerning a ls problem, just after tyring to install man pages and docs. I do not have the complete error message but if I try to emerge again (anything) it starts the building process again in a step 1 of 3 and after a while exits with the same error message.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Paulo

You'll have to tell us some more if you want us to be able to help you. Useful information would be the last twenty or so lines of output, and the output of emerge --info.

You could have a look at this https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=274968

Basically the idea is to start with a stage 3 install and then recompile everything. That way if something goes wrong you can skip it and come back to it later since you have a working (unoptimised) base underneath. Turned out easier for me at least.

Hmm, it's quite possible that you've run into this problem: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-313260.html. If so, please follow up there.

Hi

That's the error I am getting.
Thanks a lot for everyone's help. IF everything fails I will be back.
