Hey fellow gentoo-ers.

When I boot my G4 with the live CD ifconfig eth0 shows;
Code:
Link Encap:UNSPEC 00-0A-27-FF-FE-8A-3D-76-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00

ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00-0A-27-8A-3D-76 (Confirmed in OSX)
results in
Code:
SIOCSIFWADDR: Invalid argument

dmesg tails with lines of errors pointing to usb keyboard (Mac or M$ Natural Pro) both of which have on-board usb hubs (suspected culprits). Actual error reads;
Code:
usb-0001:11:09.0-1.1/input0, type:0 code (pick a number 18,24,31,32,34,50)

There are no obvious irq conflicts but then irqs go up to 58 !?

You can probably guess from this that I'm not familiar with Apples. In fact, I blew the dust off of this because I would like more gentoo boxes to play with.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Can anyone recommend a guide to bios/firmware (How to change/disable things)

TIA

Jim

Edit: Lan Chipset is: Digital Equipment Corporation DEchip 21142/43 (rev 41)

The usb errors are actually event debugging messages, it was mistakenly left on for the 2004.3 LiveCD. The 2005.0 cd will be released in the next few days, it may be better to wait for that. As for your ethernet device, I'm not sure if the 2004.3 LiveCD came with drivers for the Dec 21142/43, but if it did, it is the tulip module.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I assumed that becuase it gave (almost) complete info for eth that it had identified it and there was another issue. I also assumed that Apple built from a limited range of equipment vendors making it easier to build a stable base for.

But then they say "Assumption is the mother of all cock-ups" :oops:

Edit:
Yup, I have connectivity thanks to the tulip module.
/Edit

Thanks,

Jim
