Hi @ all (Took my a long time to find the "@" on mac"
any way

I'm trying to boot a gentoo ppc livecd from my mac mini but without any success. I'm pressing "C".
I cannot even enter the OpenFirmware with Control+Option+O+F

Any idea? I've burned the gentoo livecd for ppc on Linux, OSX and Windows -> no difference

Thnx for any help you suggest

I can't remember which one, but i'm sure that you have to press "ctrl" or "alt" while booting

I'm sure mine booted with 2005.0 livecd, but I cannot find the link to the experimental livecd. I think you have to wait until 2005.0 comes out official! :?

Best regards,

Markus

It took me 2 or three attempts to press the key at the correct moment. (or was it for long enough I ca not remember the detail)
Can you boot from the MAC install disk? Same procedure with a known good disk.

It is posible to write the iso image without making it bootable - this used to be the default under windows, but as you have already tried other ways to burn it I guess it should be OK.

I used live CD 2004.3

Should work fine with a CD-R, I did it with a CD-RW. I was able to boot just by hitting power and holding C for the entire time. I had a problem booting into the Mandrake CD's though, but was able to boot doing this:

1) As soon as the machine is turned on, press and hold control + function key + o + f to boot into the firmware.

2) Type: boot cd:,\boot\<kernel image name>

This is from memory of 2 weeks ago so I probably messed something up, corrections please?

Personally, I would simply attempt holding the crtl key at start up...if you do you should come to a bootloader screen in which you can boot from your harddrive or a cd...that's the simple way. If your keyboard dosn't work good luck with the firmware.

hm.. well i didnt have any problems booting the 2005.0 cd on my mini. im not using an apple keyboard either.. it is a ps2 keyboard connected through an usb->ps2 converter. since this is working i guess the keyboard wont be a problem. but if you can boot the osx dvd i suppose it may really be a faulty burned iso image of the livecd? was the SuSe disc a retail one or did you burn it yourself?

Is it connected directly to the mini or via an usb hub? I noticed today that my mini doesn't see my usb keyboard on boot either if it is plugged into the usb hub instead of into one of the usb ports of the mini.
