Has anyone found any more up to date info on the IPOD working with MOL than 2002?!

Any pointers would be appreciated!

If you pass the iPod device (/dev/sda or whatever it is on your system) as a block device, it should just work in MOL. I've never tried it, but it's the same idea as hard drive images. Make sure that the device isn't mounted in linux otherwise you'll have problems. There is the possibility that it might trash your iPod, so be sure to have all of your music backed up first.

My ipod shuffle works with itunes under mol... but i use gnupod ;)
You only have to unload usb-storage module and then plug it in. (because mol looks only for usb devices with no linux support)

Thanks for the reply guys ...

How does the device show up as /dev/sda when usb_storage isn't loaded?

I can get the ipod to show up in osx as a drive, by exporting through mol, but itunes doesn't see it at all..

So its ok having the usb ehci and ohci loaded, just not the device specific driver, yes?

When you plug the shuffle in with usb_storage unloaded, does MOL see it (how do you check it see's it? in a log?), and then OSX installs the correct drivers for it??

Thanks again
scooby

edit: also are you using udev or devfs? I'm not sure whether udev is causing me problems here :?

when usb_storage isn't loaded i get this dmesg
Code:
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 2 choices

nothing about /dev/sda because kernel doesn't recognize the device.

Yes.

No drivers, OSX starts itunes directly...
Here is the console output:
Code:
<*> MolEnet: Link up at 100 Mbps - Full Duplex
+ Video Driver v1.12
USB device connect (1:4)

udev

No problem, your reply helps me alot! thx ;)

I don't get those messages at all in MOL, so something is wrong .. in fact nothing when I plug in any usb device ....

hotplug picks up the ipod from my udev rule and loads the usb-storage module for me, so I guess that is why MOL doesn't see it.

What does your udev ipod rule look like?

edit: I have usb messages appearing in MOLs log now, but segfaults now ... :-/

cheers

I use vanilla from kernel.org. I have default udev rules (no changes) and I dont'use hotplug (I use modules.autoload).

My mol version is app-emulation/mol-0.9.70-r1

Just tried again with gentoo sources 2.6.11 and 0.9.70pre1 works! at least osx see's my camera anyway!

Still doesn't see my ipod, but it does see other usb devices ... I think maybe the ipod draws to much power from the usb bus when there are other devices connected 8O :?

Thanks for your help .. it always helps to know if others have it working or not!

Pity the gentoo kernel has the low_mem bug :-/

cheers
