One really comfortable feature you have when working with the konqueror is the web shortcut feature.

You can easily define a shortcut for every site that has a search function and shows the keyword in the location bar after completing the search.
By replacing the keyword with \{@} you will get the Search URI.
The best known web shortcut is maybe gg: for google.

To add a custom web shortcut go to Settings -> Configure Konqueror - Web Shortcuts - New.
The custom web shortcuts are saved as *.desktop files in ~/.kde/share/services/searchproviders.

I will only write down the Search URI, choose a URI shortcut you want. But to avoid a copy and paste orgy
you can download my webshortcuts from http://http.hotheads.de/linux/kde/searchproviders.tar.gz
Just extract the archive to ~/.kde/share/services/searchproviders.

Basic web shortcut every linux user should have:

I think it isn't possible because they use php. But you can use the google sitesearch to search these pages.
If you choose gs as shortcut you can search the gentoo forums with:
Code:
gs: forums.gentoo.org SEARCHITEM

below is the Search URI
[url=http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2F\{@}&
btnG=Suche&meta=lr%3Dlang_de%7Clang_en]Google Sitesearch[/url]

It is possible because I've been doing it... with firefox. In fact, I'm migrating from firefox to konqueror :), and I miss much that feature. I've been looking at my firefox bookmark for making a keyword search in the gentoo forums and I found this:
Code:

just forget about the icon, and watch the rest. It seems that firefox does the search in three steps: first it sends the URL that obtain the form where you would write the keyword, then writes the keyword, and finally sends more information: the POST_DATA crap. Maybe, this doesn't work this way... who knows? I'm not going to study the source of firefox.
I tried putting in konqueror in the URL field: http://......... <the keyword here> <all the postdata here>, but no way. If you come up with any idea, please let me know.
Bye.

EDIT: Split the "ICON" line into 21. --pjp

Can you please reformat your post and use the url not the code tag for the url.
Code:
[url=yourURLhere]URL Text[/url]

I once made the same failure to post an endless url so you had to scroll miles to the right.
Because of that my thread has been locked.:wink:

Thanks

I use a webshortcut to search gentoo forums in konq:

https://forums.gentoo.org/search.php?show_results=topics&search_terms=all&search_keywords=\{@}

just cut and paste that into the konqi (Settings-> Configure Konq->Web Shortcuts), call it something like gf

then in the address bar, clear it and type "gf: whatever you want to search on"

I did get the web-dev sitting next to me to help :)

Thanks, that works.
Do you know how to get any site to work? or how to find out the parameters needed by a given webpage?
I also need a web-dev next to me...

Mostly it shouldn't be too difficult, but when a page is designed to only allow POST requests then there's nothing you can do. But you can always try to get it working by looking at the page's source. Simply get all the defined variables in the form and put them in your link. So for example, if you look at the Gentoo Forums' source, you'll see that search_terms and show_results are pre-defined. Thus you'll take these vars with there values on your URL + the var which needs to be filled in (search_terms). This last one then needs to get a replaceable string, which is \{@} in konq.

Is there a way to make those searches act like the google toolbar in konq? Kinda like how firefox's plugins work. All i've ever been able to do is the google one, but I'd be greatful if you could use this information to write plugins for the search toolbar.

AFAIK this isn't possible. I'd be grateful too if there would be something like that!
