Hi all.

I've install 2004.x quite a few times, and I'm following the documentation so unless I've slipped up, I don't think this is me!

I've partitioned, formatted, pulled down stage 1 snapshot and the latest portage snapshot. make.config is set up with use flags, and everything is where it should be. When I emerge gentoo-sources, it gets as far as emergeing sys-libs/db-4.1.25_p1-r4 and fails with:

./libtool: line 1: g++ command not found

This is true - it doesn't seem to be on the system. There's no mention in 2005.0 documentation about using different stages, or bootstrapping, yet the files are on the server. Do I need to bootstrap as normal or what? I'm after a 2.6 kernel here too.

Any ideas or am I just being incredibly stupid?

If you are doing a stage 1 install, you would need run

Code:
/usr/portage/scripts/bootstrap.sh

then
Code:
emerge -av system

before you can compile your own kernel.

If you don't want to tweak anything, you can just do a stage 3 install. But you still need to ensure your make.conf is correct.

A stage1 snapshot will require you to bootstrap.
