Hello,

Last days i've been trying to make work the promise fasttrack 378 to use a new IDE harddisk (PATA).

The steps are the following:

1) Download a gentoo kernel > 2.6.10
2) Mark as <*> the following:

Device Drivers -->
SCSI device support -->
<*> SCSI disk support
SCSI low-level drivers --->
[*] Serial ATA (SATA) support
< > AHCI SATA support
< > ServerWorks Frodo / Apple K2 SATA support
< > Intel PIIX/ICH SATA support
< > NVIDIA SATA support
< > Promise PATA 2027x support
< > Promise PATA 2027x support
<*> Promise SATA TX2/TX4 support

3) You must change this line in /usr/src/linux/include/linux/libata.h

#undef ATA_ENABLE_PATA /* define to enable PATA support in some
* low-level drivers */

to

#define ATA_ENABLE_PATA /* define to enable PATA support in some
* low-level drivers */

4) Recompile your kernel
5) Change the option for your promise controller in the BIOS
6) Now, you have in /dev/sdx your new harddrive !! (if it is not in /dev/sdx, try with fdisk -l )

I hope it is usefull for some of you.

Cool beans! I will definitely have to try this out at some point and see if it works. I know they've been working on the support, but I didn't realize it was already there.
