I just got a G4 powermac with a studio display. I am trying to install 2004.3, but having problems with the display. I chose G$ kernel with "video=nofb" and I just get a white/pink blank screen. I've serach the forum for problems with the sutdio display, but cna't find a solution to this. Any help is greatly appreciated...

Thanks,,

which studio display is it? i've heard of problems with the old 17 crt studio display with new macs in general. something to do with the connector on it (adc), and it being the only studio display of that era to use an analog signal. i think it meant you had to hook it up straight to an adc port instead of an adapter from a dvi port as that would only pass the digital signal through properly. now most macs still have an adc port, especially g4's, though if you're using a different graphics card, and trying to do the afore mentioned set up thing, that it is a hardware issue, not a gentoo thing.

if of course its the lcd, disregard all the typing, as someone else will point you in a better direction....

Other video option to try would be "video=ofonly" which should give you a console for the installation.

Later you can also specify your framebuffer (e.g., radeonfb if you are using a Radeon card) with the resolution and refresh rate for your monitor (something along the lines of "video=radeonfb:1280x1024-60" also dependent on the fb.modes that are present on the installation CD) for accelerated video and stuff.
