Hi all fellow Gentoo-PPC users!

I managed to update my iBook G4 to a totally unusable/unbootable state  (See the whole story here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-317851.html). Does anyone know whether there is a PPC binary of glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1 or earlier available somewhere? I didn't find anything with Google. If not, could someone please make one for me, otherwise my only option is to wipe the Gentoo partition clean and start installation from scratch...

I have posted once an older glibc for somebody else and it is still available. I can make a package of my current glibc if that does not work, let me know if it is needed.

No, it didn't work

I still can't chroot in, and booting stops with:
Code:
INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation! sleeping for 30 seconds.

Could you please make a newer one, if that works better?

Are you sure you are not better off booting the live CD and emerging stuff from there? In any case here is glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1. Hope it helps.

Well, I have been under impresson that to be able to install/compile programs in this situation you have to chroot from the LiveCD to the system and run emerge 'whatever' there... But if I'm wrong about this, it could save the day :) So, just to make sure, can I just run 'emerge glibc-...etc' from the LiveCD as such and it will install the glibc to the correct place?

Thank you very, very, very much, bruda! :D Your new glibc-binary did the trick, after installing it I finally managed to boot the system...

(/me hugs everything within reach)

After logging in I wanted to know whether it was just the updated glibc version that went bang, or did I have something else wrong in my system, so I re-emerged the glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1. It compiled & installed without a hitch, but afterwards when I tried to run emerge --sync, I got an error complaining something about a missing/wrong libpthread. Using the information found here I managed to fix that by correcting a symlink.

So, it seems that I'm finally back to a working system... 8) Thanks again!
