I am just compleating the setup of my amd64 for gentoo 2005.0 but for some odd reason I keep geting a segmentation fault when I try to do the setup line in grub. I have tryed the other form of the setup suggested by the handbook, it says it is succesfull, but has no effect on the booting of my computer (it still goes right into my windows) below is the output from my gurb:

Code:
ubuntu linux # grub
Probing devices to guess BIOS drives. This may take a long time.

GNU GRUB  version 0.94  (640K lower / 3072K upper memory)

[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported.  For the first word, TAB
lists possible command completions.  Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
   completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> root (hd0,1)
root (hd0,1)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
grub> setup (hd0)
setup (hd0)
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"...  22 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
Segmentation fault
ubuntu linux #

is this becouse I dont have all of linux on this drive? or just becouse I have windows on this drive as well? I have even tryed using the WD resque disk to write zeros to the hole drive incuding the MBR but I am still getting this error. I have also tryed to run grub with the --no-floppy option but i get the same thing. Any help would be appreciated.

i'd suggest getting a live cd, chrooting and installing grub then, that means there are no other factors that can be present because you are booting off the disk.
