Hi all,

I am a newbie in terms of posts, but I have been working with Gentoo for a couple of years now and think it is by far the best distro ever. You guys rock for sure.
Anyway, this devfs becoming obsolete has thrown quite a spanner in my works. I understand that udev has taken over the role, but I just cannot get my ext3 root to mount.
here is raidtab:
# /boot (RAID 1)
raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
chunk-size 32
persistent-superblock 1
device /dev/hda1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdc1
raid-disk 1

# /proxy (RAID 1)
raiddev /dev/md1
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
chunk-size 32
persistent-superblock 1
device /dev/hda3
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdc3
raid-disk 1

# / (RAID 1)
raiddev /dev/md2
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
chunk-size 32
persistent-superblock 1
device /dev/hda4
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdc4
raid-disk 1
I have created a partition for squid's cache as well - md1.

Here is fstab:
# NOTE: If your BOOT partition is ReiserFS, add the notail option to opts.
/dev/md0 /boot ext2 noauto,noatime 1 1
/dev/md1 /proxy ext3 noatime 0 0
/dev/md2 / ext3 noatime 0 0
/dev/hda2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hdc2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro 0 0
#/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto 0 0

# NOTE: The next line is critical for boot!
none /proc proc defaults 0 0

I am running stage3-x86-2005.0 with gentoo-sources 2.6.11-r4.
Here is grub.conf:
# Partition where the kernel image (or operating system) is located
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel-2.6.11-gentoo-r4 root=/dev/md2 devfsd=nomount

I originally did not compile my kernel with the devfs option (and didnt have the nomount option), but it didnt work, then I included it and added the nomount line to the grub.conf. I have also emerge devfsd.

I know that I am missing something very small here, and it is frustrating me no end.

I would appreciate any advise.

I wonder if we can get onto releng and find out if there is a specific reason for this because it doesn't seem to be happening in 100% of cases.

Can the people its happening to post their "emerge info" here?

I would suggest changing the line in fstab to
Code:
# NOTE: If your BOOT partition is ReiserFS, add the notail option to opts.
/dev/md0                /boot           ext2            noauto,noatime          1 2 <--
/dev/md1                /proxy          ext3            noatime                 0 0
/dev/md2                /               ext3            noatime                 0 1 <--
