I'm on my second day of installing Gentoo and finally I have a working system. Now it's from from what I want and the first problem I'm having is installing X. I used the package CD. I did
Code:
 emerge --usepkg x11

So install went ok, so I tried starting x and here's the output:

Code:

XIO:  fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"

edit: removing the framebuffer thingy in the kernel did the job

rebuild your kernel. Take out framebuffer support in the device drivers/graphics section.

recompile and copy the file and reboot.

Looks like you still need to configure X. Take a look at this guide.

Thanks for the replies. I'll recompile my kernel first, hope I don't get the same problem afterwards.
