as mentioned in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-239895.html there is a problem suspending the iBook when hal is running.
Since KDE-3.4 there is a new kio_slave media:/ which is using the hal framework. Even if hal is not installed, suspending/waking up the iBook will fail.
You can trun off the kio_slave in kcontrollcenter under KDE Components->Services, it is called "KDED Mediamanager"
But even if you don't start the Mediamanager on KDE startup, the module will be loaded if it is needed (e.g. typing media:/ in konqueror)
So put this script into /etc/power/scripts.d/ and make a link to it from inside /etc/power/suspend.d/ to get kde 3.4 and suspend on iBook working together

# description : Workaround for kded mediamanager bug on iBooks
# requirements: kde
# limitations :
# This is only needed if you use KDE.
# Even if you don't start kded mediamanager on KDE startup it is a good idea
# trying to stop the module, because it will be loaded automaticly if it is needed.
