Hello experts,

I followed the x86 handbook step by step, learning alot along the way, until I got stuck @ "10.d. Rebooting the System" I've been stuck for 5 days now & can't find on my own what I've missed or done wrong.

The live CD sets up my net connection just fine.

When I boot from the HD there is a "ERROR: Problem starting needed services." message on bootup.

The following may be insightful to someone with more expertise.

I'm assuming this was saved to the log when I tried to boot the kernel I configured manualy from the HD since /var/log doesn't get mounted when I boot from the CD.

Code:

root # cat /var/log/messages
...

& these are the boot messages created when I rebooted from the CD

Code:

root # dmesg

Hi mikeyung-

Do you have network connectivity at all? Can you ping google.com? Can you post the output of ifconfig?

Meh...

Try:

rc-update add net.eth0 default

If that doesnt cut it, try this too:

rc-update add netmount default.

If there's no luck with that, include this on your kernel line in grub.conf:
acpi=off

If that's no help, boot off of the livecd, mount the partitions as the guide says & chroot. Then, check over everything in the install guide.
