This is something I'll be coming back to once I get it completed. After searching the net for a while I was able to recover the PPD for this printed and wanted to post it here so that I had the information somewhere in the forums for later recovery. This will become a full howto after I install and get the printer working.

To get the actual PPD, download Lexmark_AldusPPD_en.exe and extract it using:

Code:

cabextract Lexmark_AldusPPD_en.exe

If you don't have cabextract installed already simply 'emerge cabextract' to get it.

LEXT522.PPD will be one of the many PPD's to come out of this package, and that is the one you want. Once you get this extracted go ahead and send it to the cups directory listed below:

Code:

cp LEXT522.PPD /usr/share/cups/model/

Now all you need to do is add it into your printer database in cups using lpadmin:

Code:

lpadmin -p LaserJet -E -v socket://192.168.10.189 -m LEXT522.PPD

In this example my printer is installed via JetDirect at address 192.168.10.189 and I have named it LaserJet - generic, but it is the only printer I will be using on this system so I'm not concerned with unique names.

If you want this driver to work properly in Gimp you will have to emerge with the 'ppds' USE flag set. Once you have re-emerged then restart cups by issuing a '/etc/init.d/cupsd restart' command. Don't forget to add cups to your default runlevel by doing 'rc-update add cupsd default' - and your done!
