I am running Gentoo on a vmware ESX server session. The clock loses about 50% of its time. In other words, if I set the correct time at 2pm, by 2:30 it will say 2:15.

VMWARE server does keep time correctly.

I have a Red Hat box that keeps time and so do the windows servers. I have deleted adjtime but it does not help. I know there are ntp protocols, but I do not have to do the same thing for my other servers. Any ideas as to why?

Is there anyone running vmware gentoo out there?

maybe this helps (assuming you're using a 2.6 kernel)

add clock=pit as boot parameter for the kernel
