does anyone know if it possible for root and my normal user to have read/write access to my winxp partition. i can mount it with my user and root but when trying to write it says access denied even under root and i have ntfs rea/write support built into to my kernel so what can i do?

Did you also mount it with the 'rw' option? You can check that with the command 'mount'.

i tried that and placed that option in fstab but user still could not do anything and root could only read. i also tried mount -o remount,rw /mnt/hda1 like i do in knoppix but still no luck

NOTE:this is to mount a winxp partition and ntfs read and write support is built into the kernel not as modules

Last time I knew there are limitation to the writing to the disk, but reading works fine. root should be able to access the drive with out an issue, but for users to get to it you will need to check into setting the guid and such so you can read it.

Not at my box right now or I would paste an example.

Please see this FAQ: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-29285.html. Also, write support for NTFS is very limited, for instance you can only change a file if that file stays exactly the same length iirc. FAT32 is pretty much the best solution for sharing data between Windows and Linux.
