In my log I see a number of errors regarding vcc nodes in /dev:

Code:
# dmesg|grep vcc|sort|uniq -c
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/10
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/11
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/2
2 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/4
2 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/5
2 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/6
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/7
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/8
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/9
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a10
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a11
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a2
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a3
2 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a4
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a5
2 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a6
2 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a7
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a8
1 devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for vcc/a9

Two questions:
1. What are the /dev/vcc nodes about, would it be safe to completely remove them?
2. What do these errrors indicate?

My problems disappeared when I switched to udev. The transition was in fact quite straight-forward. I just recompiled the kernel and put 2 extra items in my GRUB menu, both for this newly compiled kernel. One with udev enabled, and the other with devfs. With udev it works flawlessly.
