On my iBook g4 1ghz I have alsa working and I emerged mplayer. I do

Code:
mplayer blah.mp3

and for a SPLIT second it is the right volume, but then it gets real quiet.

My amixer Master and PCM are set to 85% and unmuted (obviously)

Any idea's what's causing this and/or how to fix it?

EDIT: headphone audio is fine. Perfect volume.. odd...?

IIRC I had to mute or unmute DRC in alsamixer to solve this.

I'll check on that, but don't think it's the same problem..

What is DRC for? It was hard to find out that I have to put it to 100 percent..

Maybe you should play around with the earphone detection. This is quite confusing, but gives the possibility to switch lineout without unplugging, even playing both speakers and line out.
Moreover only the text alsamixer does work for me. The alsamixergui somtimes has strange behaviour and crashes.

It's really odd, I kept playing with the mixer and other settings and all of a sudden it seems to work (randomly). I don't get why it worked, then didn't and now works again. Oh well.. I'll just be happy with it for now!
