Is this Possible?
I need to finish an install that I started at work today. I started the install at the physical machine of course but I set the root password and started up sshd hoping that I could continue from home later on tonight. Can I just connect via ssh from home and continue from where I left off? I had just ran the bootstrap.sh command and had to leave for the day.

My thinking is that I should login then do:
Code:
# chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
# env-update
# source /etc/profile

then continue from where I left off and run emerge, then configure the kernel ... and so on...

Can this be done? Have you done this? :?:

This can be done. I did this, but the first thing I started after booting the livecd was a screen session, so I could more easily see what was going on and stuff like that.
But you should be pretty much ok doing that.

It will work, but a "screen -xR" would be better. Then you can ctrl+a ctrl+d to detach the screen session or outright close the ssh or terminal that it is in, but everything will keep running in the background and you can "screen -xR" from anywhere on the machine (be it an alt+f# virtual console or later ssh session) to re-attach...

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads in favour of SSH: keep login active/Login to a previously started session.
