ok, i made a nice mistake on my gentoo box and i have to recover a few files.
is there any recovery software for ext3?

Nope.

regular backups are better than any "undelete" scheme

There are ways it can be done, but it's not easy.

I forget the names of the software though, sorry.

Damn, I must be thinking of a different FS.

Though my searches did lead me to a piece of software called foremost which might work if you know something about the lost files.

As for the sig - yes, I should update it, as the invite will have expired long ago!

First of all, unmount the partition. Next, use dd to basically cat chunks of the device into raw files, then grep through the chunks for your needed data.

Try a search for "undelete" in OTG.
