Okay, so I'm compiling Gentoo on a brand new box. Everything is going swimmingly until, in the midst of my emerge --emptytree system, I hit ncurses and everything comes to a screeching halt:

Code:
:
:
cd c++ && make DESTDIR="" all
make[1]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/narrowc/c++'
cd ../obj_s;   -I../c++ -I../include -I/var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/ncurses-5.4/c++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I/var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/ncurses-5.4/c++/../include -I. -I../include  -D_GNU_SOURCE -DNDEBUG -O3 -march=pentium3 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fPIC -c /var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/ncurses-5.4/c++/cursesf.cc
/bin/sh: line 1: -I../c++: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [../obj_s/cursesf.o] Error 127
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/narrowc/c++'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Anybody know what's going on here? Looks like some variable isn't defined in the makefile, but I can't find the makefile ... I went poking around in /mnt/gentoo/var/tmp/portage/ncurses-5.4-r6/work/ncurses-5.4, but I can't find it. I tried repeating emerge sync, waiting a day then repeating emerge sync, emerge ncurses alone, and also completely blowing everything away and starting from scratch (since I wasn't all that far into it, it wasn't a big deal to try it), but no dice thus far. Any suggestions anyone?

Moved from Installing Gentoo in favour of the above mentioned thread.
