I get this too, on vanilla-sources...

Today's ~PPC emerge also updated binutils, which includes the assembler:

what version of binutils are you using?

I updated to binutils-2.16.90.0.2 and the ERROR WENT AWAY.

Yes, Binutils was the problem :)

i downgraded to my previous one and now everything is fine, so it seems that this versione of binutils has some problems with PPC ... would be interesting knowing if it is also a problem regarding the other platforms.

Bye

There was a miscommunication and the wrong version of binutils was keyworded ppc, which is what was causing the problem. If you emerge sync, binutils will downgrade to the correct version.

Sorry about the trouble.
