hi. i had a friend of mine help me with my gentoo install, i was reading some of the documentation on cflags but i'm still unsure as to whether or not mine are safe or kind of unstable, i've been having a lot of problems lately, mainly with Xine and Zsnes and i'm wondering if they were caused by my cflag settings. Here's an excerpt:

These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example
CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j3"

thanks in advance for any input

-O2 is often better than -O3, but those flags are entirely reasonable so I doubt your problems are CFLAG related.
