Hey Team,

I'm probably going to go to gentoo forums hell for this, but I'm posting this in hardware and in networking, because I have a feeling a hardware issue is manifesting itself by knocking me off the network.

I have a Tyan K8WE based system that seems to forget about its eth0 after doing heavy lifting. I have it going up against an intel pro/1000 doing iperf through a foundry switch. It does *not* screw up when doing similar activities with other interfaces. I'm trolling google for known issues /
interactions with the onboard ethernet card:

eth0: Tigon3 [partno(253212-001) rev 0105 PHY(5701)] (PCIX:100MHz:64-bit) 10/100
/1000BaseT Ethernet 00:02:a5:e7:54:23

These are both full gig connections. When the tyan goes off the air, it thinks the interface is sitll up, but nobody's home: I can try pinging the default gateway but tcpdump never sees anything going out or coming in.

I've seen scant few error messages about this. I saw it say something about eth2 (which was running fprobe at the time)

eth2: too many iterations (6) in nv_nic_irq

But I don't think that's related.

The other thing I've seen it do is kernel panic :) I went through all the trouble of setting up a serial console, but it now refuses to do it. I remember the string net_xmit or transmit, but I didn't write any of it down because I wanted to do the serial console thing. Alas, I can't get it to panic.

Anway, any suggestions on what I can do? I suspect an interrupt issue because my system board is new and fancy and uses hypertransport and who knows what other klingon technologies, any interrupt foo?

Thanks,

Mike H.

Looks like I was mistaken; the internal cards are working fine, the tygons aren't built in....

Same problems persist; at least I can maybe swap out the cards to identify a driver / hw issue.

Any suggestions still welcome.
