I have ordered an nforce4 mobo (asus sli delux) is there any specific steps i need to do to my system before i swop disks over apart from the obvious recompile kernel with drivers for the new hardware,
i have my system compiled with
CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -ffast-math -fprefetch-loop-arrays -mfpmath=sse,387 -mmmx -m3dnow -msse"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--enable-new-dtags -Wl,--sort-common -Wl,--strip-all"
USE="nptl nptlonly alsa -oss gnome unicode eds hal howl mpeg xvid -arts matroska real dvdread dvdrw cdrw cdr wxgtk wxgtk1 gtk gtk2 -kde -qt nvidia mmx mmxext 3dnow 3dnowext sse opengl dvd dvdr cups foomaticdb ppds usb gimpprint mozilla-firebird "

would it be an idea to compile system with conservative cflags ?

Thanks in advance
14 :)

If you want to run in 32-bit mode, then you can just recompile your kernel. (Although your CFLAGS/LDFLAGS are fairly extreme - lowering them definitely won't hurt...)

If you want to run in 64-bit, however, you're going to have to reinstall from scratch.

so CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" and lose the ld flags, recompile the world and put in a new kernel would work for now?
would you recommend reinstalling from scratch?
oh thanks for quick reply
:)
