Strangely, xmms-flac works perfectly for me under OS X Panther with Fink X11 and does not work in (dual boot) gentoo.

xmms in gentoo says the plugin is there and xmms opens flac files w/o errors but there is only silence when I press play. Also, the time does not advance and xmms doesn't use any CPU so I'm pretty sure nothing is happening when trying to play flacs.

xmms works perfectly with mod, mp3, and ogg.

I have xmms-1.2.10-r14 and flac-1.1.1

Is there a way around this? Is there some new all-in-one sound player that isn't so flakey?

Nevermind. The application I used to rip my flacs is not working properly. My flacs were corrupt. I downloaded some others and they worked fine.

(I used grip 3.3.0 to rip them.) The problem is flac 1.1.1. The flac file is all corrupted. I tried just ripping a wav and telling flac 16bit, 44100Hz, little endian but the result was the same. The flac file sounds horrible and I have verified that the ripped wav file is not messed up.

Hi, I had the same problem on my ibook with flacs. Whenever I tried to rip it to flac, he said that there was corruption. The verify function failed always.

I upgraded my flac to 1.1.2-r1 (had to ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~ppc") and flac seems to work perfectly. So does the xmms flac plugin. No problems with grip either.
