imagine I do:

emerge gaim mplayer

gaim part will show interesting messages at the end, but the mplayer part will move them out of the screen ... and gaim messages get lost for ever.

ATM I have PORT_LOGDIR="/var/log/portage"
but I dont feel like tailing all those files.

On debian, it is possible to tell apt to email to root the relevant messages of instalations.

Is there a way to make emerge put away and together all messages generated at install time ? likely not an email, but maybe a special not-so-long file with only relevant parts ...

I fear
cat /var/log/portage/* | grep " \*"
to show a lot of irrelevant noise.

some times there are very interesting messages (like those told by mysql to create bases, mod_php and activation, gaim-plugins* about use, and many other I met ...) ... and I dont want to loose all that. I am new to Gentoo.

But emerging packages one by one to check manuall the tail is just painfull, and loss of time. (ie: you loose the time bewteen an emerges finishes, and the moment you notice it is finished).

You could have found them too, and there's no special knowledge required. I simply searched for the two words emerge messages. Instead of coming with such weak excuses for pure lazyness, it would be wiser to not come up with any excuse and keep silent.
