hello everyone.

I'm another linux newbie and I'm not quite sure where to post this.

I've installed gentoo, emerged kde and have the system up and running (minus the onboard sound that I'll work on later). I'm attempting to install firefox but keep getting the following errors when gtk+ is emerged.

grep: //usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read //usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5/libstdc++.la: Nosuch file or directory
libtool: link: `//usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.5/libstdc++.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[4]: *** [libpixbufloader-tiff.la] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gtk+-2.6.4-r1/work/gtk+-2.6.4/gdk-pixbuf'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gtk+-2.6.4-r1/work/gtk+-2.6.4/gdk-pixbuf'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gtk+-2.6.4-r1/work/gtk+-2.6.4/gdk-pixbuf'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/gtk+-2.6.4-r1/work/gtk+-2.6.4'
make: *** [all] Error 2

The big problem I see is that there isn't an i386-pc-linux-gnu directory on my machine but I do have an i686-pc-linux-gnu directory with the .la file in it.

I checked and all the earlier references in the emerge of gtk+ refer to the i686 directory.

In reading the forums and the documentation I have not come across (or have not recognized it when it bit me on the ankle) how to change this directory.

all help appreciated!

Moved from Installing Gentoo. Please see the above mentioned thread and links therein.

Had this problem not been discussed/solved elsewhere the correct forum would have been Desktop Environments or Portage & Programming.
