I had a web/mail server running kernel 2.4.28. Then I desided to upgrade to kernel 2.6.11. After the upgrade I got this kind of messages for lots of packages I was emerging:
Code:

 * Please upgrade your package (packagename) to use toolchain-funcs.eclass

I didn't figure out why I got this messages, so I decided to do a clean install of everything. I followed the instalation guide in the gentoo handbook and did a stage 1 install. And guess what - I get the same messages! I saw a few of them passing by during emerge -e system, but I didn't get to read them as they scrolled by.

Then, when i did
Code:
emerge -pv apache php mod_php |less

I got the message with these packages: libpng-1.2.7, libpng-1.2.7-r1, rpm2targz-8.0, rpm2targz-9.0-r2, rpm2targz-9.0, rpm2targz-9.0-r1.
libpng-1.2.8 is one of the packages that will be installed - 1.2.8 was not listed among the toolchain messages, while 1.2.7 and 1.2.7-r1 are listed.

portage was sync'd yesterday.

Can anyone explain what the message mean, why it shows up and what to do with it?
I'm not even sure if this is an error message.

Thank you,
pg

That's nothing you should worry about unless you're the developer:P

Sounds like I should have asked this before reinstalling everything.
Oh, well.

Thanks

I was talking about other kind of developers, probably. Anyway, you may try to:
- re-emerge portage
- rm -rf /usr/portage and sync again, backup your distfiles/ and packages/ if needed
- emerge metadata
- get the old eclass from CVS and put it in /usr/portage/eclass. Link: http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/eclass/
- look at bugs.gentoo.org maybe they posted the solution (which is not actually a solution sice it's not a serious problem:P)
- Be less sensitive:)

Respect!
