Hi,

I'm trying to install a gentoo system on a poweredge 1850 with 2 Xeon 64bits.
The bootstrap fails on linux-headers with this message :

---------------------------------------
...
*
* Library routines
*
CRC-CCITT functions (CRC_CCITT) [N/m/y/?] (NEW) n
CRC32 functions (CRC32) [Y/?] y
CRC32c (Castagnoli, et al) Cyclic Redundancy-Check (LIBCRC32C) [N/m/y/?] n
SPLIT include/linux/autoconf.h -> include/config/*
CC scripts/mod/empty.o
cc1: error: code model `kernel' not supported in the 32 bit mode
make[2]: *** [scripts/mod/empty.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [scripts/mod] Error 2
make: *** [scripts] Error 2
---------------------------------------

what does that mean "code model not supported" ???

Any ideas ?
thanks for your help.

My make.conf is :

---------------------------------------
# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=nocona -pipe"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
USE="nptl multilib ssl ithreds pam radius vhosts sasl"
AUTOCLEAN=yes
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://192.168.10.6/gentoo"
SYNC="rsync://192.168.10.6/gentoo-portage"
---------------------------------------

Software Configuration :

iso gentoo 2005.0 x86
stage1 x86 2005.0
portage-20050505

Hardware Configuration :

Dell poweredge 1850
2 Xeon 3ghz 64bits em64t

I would start trying an AMD64 Installation-CD booting the standard 'gentoo' kernel. I'm not sure whether the x86-CD can install x86_64 code at all, the AMD64-ISO definitely can and did fine in our installation (see also my previous post) ...
BTW: do you want to install a 32- or a 64-bit Gentoo?

thanks for your reply.
I already try the amd64 install cd,
the result is :

Grub loading, plase wait ...
Error 15

I don't have the boot prompt. It goes directly to "Error 15".

Someone on the mailing list sugest to use Knoopix64. I'm downloading the iso to try to boot.

So: I can't use the x86 install cd, because it won't work with amd64 stage tarball.
I can't boot with the amd64 install cd.

Ok, Now it starts with an minimal iso install cd.
Perhabs the first universal cd wasn't really clean.

So I boot with the "gentoo" kernel, as the overs don't work.
(https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88952)

now, the emerge sync is "en route", and next bootstrap .

Did you check your AMD64 ISO with the MD5 sum provided on the mirror site? We had some ISOs that did not work due to broken files in the first place ... Glad it works now, good luck with your further install. :)

Moved from Gentoo on AMD64 to Duplicate Threads in favour of SOLVED: kernel compile issues
