I've been doing a straight up "handbook" install on my G4 Cube. Partitioned as per the "Handbook" checked ethernet (ifconfig & ping worked), compiled genkernel then while "emerge -k coldplug", error not reaching internet. retry ping - nothing.

During genkernel complile I did see a message about "unable to mount /BOOT", but compile otherwise seemed to go ok. Can't think of any other errors.

What would cause internet to die during instalation (other computers on LAN still accessing internet OK).

Thanks,
Matt[/code]

Check the following, before and after the network connection is lost:
Code:
ifconfig -a
lsmod
dmesg | less

Thanks - tested it out. Appears that I lose internet as soon as I "chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash"

Implications?

Thanks

No I did not - "Handbook" said optional. Should I try that (next time through)?

Actualy, upon a closer reading it appears I should try it. I will.

Thanks,
Matt
