I used the OW-Kernel provided by Jose to install Gentoo 2005.0 on my machine, but I can't get a working kernel compiled, they all hang right after outputing something about a serial driver. And the kernel from Jose assumes my root device is ext2 but its ext3 so it gives me a bad superblock error forcing me to reboot.:?

Might i possibly be using the wrong variables in my make.conf file? I used the reccomended variables in the make.conf.example file.:?:

Any help would be appreciated, I love gentoo, I have 2005.0 running on my Amd64 machine and it rocks. I've learned alot but still have alot to learn.

Oh and I'm using the default gentoo-sources. My intended usage of this machine is a simple ftp server using proFtp , I only selected the needed options on my menuconfig and I still can't get a working kernel.

Thanks,
Scott

The kernel I provided does not assume anything about the root filesystem. Check your fstab and ensure it's correct. To prevent your own kernels from locking up on serial, simply remove the serial driver from the kernel.
Code:
Device Drivers->Character Devices->Serial Drivers
 < > 8250/16550 and compatible serial support

Good luck!

Yep After much fiddling, I now have a working kernel. The default was to enable 8250/16550 serial drivers instead of the PZilog? (not verbatim, I'm posting from a different machine) Now to fix my video and ethernet hardware woes...:roll:
