I've been trying to get various p2p clients working but so far have only had any real luck with bittorrent and then only on the CLI. I was wondering if anyone had gotten any of the others (limewire, gnutella, etc) working and working efficiently?

I'm happilly using amule for over half a year now. The new 2.0 version si very stable and hopefuly it'll be soon in portage tree (there're only RCs at this moment). Also mldonkey quite works, but it's not very user firendly and it takes some twekaing to get it work.

Is this in anyway related to Gentoo on PPC?

mabe it's related to ppc software because of the windows emultion that is not working yet
mabe not all are working under ppc linux because of specific x86 coding to inprove performance

It's definitely related to PPC because I also run several x86 boxes and they run ALL the graphical and non-GUI p2p clients that I've tried on them without problems. Most notably the two I mentioned in my original post. Limewire and Gnutella. whereas, as I've said, I've had very little luck with the same applications on PPC.

I run mldonkey. It's not perfect, but supports BT and eDonkey/Overnet.
And - best of all - I can have it running on my server all day, with the gui only running on my laptop.

I prefer Sancho as GUI, yet this does not work on PPC (yet, hopefully)

hello,

I`m running Phex to connect to the gnutella network. It`s working fine on my ibook. Limewire and gtk-gnutella didn`t do it for me.

Ah, well in your original post you didn't mention anything about ppc, so it was not clear to me if you were asking a general question about p2p applications or something ppc specific. Your above comment gives just that bit more information.

I have to second Gerry's suggestion of mldonkey, it's fantastic.

But there's one caveat: while every version I've tried has emerged and run on my Alubook, some versions (can't remember which now) seem to hog a lot of processor time.
So get the latest, disable the plugins you aren't going to use, and if it misbehaves downgrade to an earlier version.

The CLI ui is decent, but not as friendly as the web interface.
I don't much like the GUI interface at all.

Just my 1.092pence
