I realize this is a network card problem, however being a newbie, I have no idea how to go about fixing it. Right before I get to the login screen, I get the following error:

Code:
[list]- Bringing up eth0 up (192.168.1.102) ...
       SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
       eth0 interface interface : No such device
       SIOCSIFBRDADDR : No such device
       eth0 : unknown interface : No such device
       SIOCSIFNETMASK : No such device

        * Error problem starting needed services
        * "netmount" was not started
        * starting local

[/list]

thanks in advance

when you compiled your kernel did you make your ethernet card a module, and if so did you add it to the autoload file?

i know i compiled it with the kernel. The eth0 card is a 8139 realtek card on the motherboard. How do i go about adding it to the autoconf file? It says not to modify it.

when i run lsmod, the eth0 comes up as 8139too and mii . Also how do i find out what module to load?

thanks

Code:

nano /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

add the module "8139too" to the list.
should be the module
